PROGRAMS
The Glimmer of Hope Metastatic Breast Cancer Center is so important for women who have metastatic breast cancer. It is the first center in Western Pennsylvania and the second in the United States that is dedicated to treating metastatic breast cancer. We are hopeful that with this new center this type of breast cancer will get the attention it deserves. Our center is being led by Dr. Christie Hilton, we are grateful for her efforts! If you are a woman living with metastatic breast cancer, please know that GOH is here for you.
RESEARCH
A Glimmer of Hope Foundation funds research studies that focuses on metastatic breast cancer. Currently, we are funding programs from UPMC and Allegheny Health Network. They are being operated under Drs. Vera & Albert Donnenberg, Dr. Adrian Lee, Dr. Steffi Oesterreich, and finally Dr. Patrick Wagner.
Research will always be the forefront of our mission, we want to lead the way to a cure!
INTEGRATIVE SERVICES
We currently fund free intergrative health services for breast cancer patients across Western PA.
Our Home for Hope program which operates under the Allegheny Health Network is at the Wexford Health and Wellness Pavilion and West Penn Hospital. This program includes massage therapy, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, and transportation. We also provide free integrative services for patients at UPMC.
TECHNOLOGY
In 2015, A Glimmer of Hope Foundation purchased the SenoClaire tomosynthesis machine. This machine was the first of its kind in the United States. In addition to the tomosynthesis machine, GOH has purchased an Automated Breast Ultrasound System (ABUS). This machine detects breast cancer in dense breasts. Most recently, A Glimmer of Hope Foundation supported the purchase of the Contrast Enhanced Mammography, this new technology will help to identify lesions and possible cancers not easily found!
FREE MAMMOGRAM
A Glimmer of Hope Foundation implemented a program at UPMC and Allegheny Health Network that will screen women under 40 years of age regardless if they have health insurance or not. As we know early detection, saves lives.
